Taking a Lesson

Taking a lesson is something that sometimes makes people nervous. I’m here to make this a fun experience! If you’re signing up for a lesson, you want to get better. It might be increasing your average, making more spares, or any number of things that will help you improve. You probably don’t know specifically what you need to work on, and that’s ok. I’ll guide you through the process.

Taking a Lesson – First Time

On your first lesson, I’ll gather some information about you that will help me tailor the lesson to your needs.  I’ll also send you a link for a coaching app called OnForm.  I’ll also sit down with you for a few minutes to get to know you.

Warmup and Video While Taking a Lesson

In a one-hour lesson, you’ll get a chance to warm up during the first 10 minutes or so. I’ll take video using a coaching app called OnForm. I’ll also send you a link to this app so that you can see the videos that I take during the lesson.

We’ll talk about where you are, what I see in your game, and together we’ll decide on what to work on for this lesson. For the next 20 minutes or so, we’ll work on making a positive change to your game.

Making a Change

Once we decide what to work on, I’ll show you how to make the change.  We might work through some isolation drills to help you feel the change in detail.  I’ll then help you work that change into a full swing.

Applying the Change

After a short break, we’ll spend the next 20 minutes or so either continuing to work on a change to your game or showing you how the change will apply to your game. We might work on lining up, spare shooting, or anything else that we determine you need to improve your game.

Integrate the Change

The last five to ten minutes is a chance for you to soak up what we’ve worked on. I’ll generally leave you alone for a few minutes to give you a chance to put some of what we’ve worked on together.

After Taking the Lesson

After you’re done taking the lesson, I’ll put together a practice plan that guides you through what a one hour practice will look like. This practice plan will be sent to you through the OnForm coaching app. This gives you what you need on your mobile device to go to the center and practice what we worked on during the lesson.

Your support doesn’t end there. Between lessons, you can take a video and send it to me for my input. I can do an analysis and send you a voiceover analysis or just send you comments through the chat available in the app. My goal is to make sure you’re able to stay on track between lessons.

We’re in this Together

Your improvement as a bowler is important to me, and I’ll do everything I can during and between lessons to support your development!

Video analysis is important when taking a lesson.

Junior Team USA 2022 Member Caroline Theiser.  Video analysis of your swing from the side or back helps to determine what to work on to make your swing better.
