I’ve had a chance to use the Storm Phaze in league and I wanted to give everyone a quick preview of this new ball scheduled for a 2/2/2016 release!

This ball reminds me of a Pearl Marvel, in that both balls were strong, low RG pearls great for a variety of conditions where you need to get the ball through the front of the lane and get a controlled motion down-lane.  That being said, this new release is a different ball with the new Velocity core and the new AX-16 pearl reactive cover.

So, my LH PAP is 5 left and 3/4 up, with about 300RPM and 50 degress axis tilt.  I drilled this ball with a 5×3 3/4 layout, which puts the pin above the bridge and slightly toward the middle finger.

This ball is clean through the front, strong in the mid-lane and a strong-arc motion at the back of the lane.  I can get a pretty good read on the lanes with this ball and the moves are predictable.  The motion off the break point is strong and the carry is pretty good.  The cover is strong enough to remove oil from the lane at a decent pace, but it’s not crazy.  I scuffed this ball with a 2000 pad which made the motion a little earlier and gave it about 2 more boards of hook.  This will be one of the stronger balls in your bag, and could be used as is or with a variety of surfaces from 1000-4000, depending on the length of skid you need on the lane condition you’re facing.  Higher rev rates will like the polish on this ball and will probably lean towards 2000-3000 surfaces with polish.  I will be throwing this ball (a lot!) on the PBA50 Tour this summer with 1000-2000 surface for our higher-volume patterns.

This will be one of the “must have” balls in my bag this summer!
