The 900 Global Viking rolls out with a new core (Strobe A.I.) and a new cover (RB90 Hybrid). It’s a relatively strong asymmetric ball, with RG of 2.52, Differential of .051, and a PSA of .014 (moderately strong). It also comes lightly polished with Power Edge.
So, what did I see with this ball? With the 5 1/4 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 layout, the ball responded very well in the mid-lane are, which is often the advantage of an asymmetric ball. Beyond that, the motion at the back end was strong but controllable. Overall, this ball fits as the second ball out of the ball when the strong solids start to change direction too early. It will be a good tournament ball that will be in my bag often, and still looked good on the house shot.
Compared to the Zen 25, I think I’d go to this ball for a stronger, earlier reaction and then the Zen 25 once the fronts start to hook too much. That’s when the Zen 25 has been my go to ball in the arsenal.
